Legendary rock band Queen has become the first band to be commemorated on British coin.
According to MYX, the collectible pieces was designed and created by Royal Mint’s Chris Facey and will be released in celebration of the band’s 50th anniversary.
Aside from the commemorative coin, commemorative postage stamps featuring “Bohemian Rhapsody” will also be launched in July.
On Twitter, Queen guitarist Brian May reacted to the honor. He said, “This is a big ‘Who could’ve imagined it’ moment for us. When we began as Queen, even the first rung of the ladder to recognition seemed remote and unreachable. To have our band recognized and our music celebrated in this way is very touching, a real honor.”
