After 50 years in the music industry, Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul announced that she is planning to step back from her grand piano and hang up the mic later this year according to Billboard.
Franklin told in a TV interview that she planned to record an album which will be part-produced by Stevie Wonder and due in September before finally retiring. “I must tell you, I am retiring this year,” said the singer.
“I feel very, very enriched and satisfied with respect to where my career came from and where it is now,” Franklin said. “I’ll be pretty much satisfied, but I’m not going to go anywhere and just sit down and do nothing. That wouldn’t be good either.”
In the span of her five decade career, Franklin won 18 Grammy awards, sold more than 75M records, sung at three presidential inaugurations and was named the greatest singer of all time by the Rolling Stone.
Franklin, turns 75 this year and has battled multiple health problems in recent times.
