  • Pop star Royalty Sarah Geronimo thanked her fans who have been with her for two decades through her sold out 20th Anniversary Concert at the Big Dome. With known pop hits like ‘Ikot-Ikot,’ ‘Kilometro,’ and her most viral hit song, ‘Tala,’ her fans, or more known as Popsters, were excited to witness its explosive vocal performance and signature moves live.

After much anticipation, fans noticed that the choreographies had a switch up especially for ‘Tala,’ as it became a viral sensation in the country in late 2019. It was also controversial that the dancers she was with were not the celebrity dance group, G-Force. This caused a spark online as popular Twitter accounts started to speculate that her and her long time dance instructor, Teacher Georcelle Dapat-Sy, had a falling out mainly because of money disputes.

Two days later, Ogie Diaz took it to YouTube to get to the bottom of this controversy. On his latest vlog, they were able to obtain information from Teacher Georcelle herself:

“This process was painful for G-Force…It’s like a break up.”

Dapat-Sy further explained that although G-Force has been dancing with and training her for the past 16 years, she respected her decision to seek growth, even if it means they will be out of the picture.

“I want her to exercise that artistic freedom,” Teacher Georcelle reaffirmed.

With regard to the monetary issue, the famous choreographer was surprised to know she was being labeled as demanding.

OMG, demand?!…Wala ako sa position to demand…,” she said.

She further explained that there was indeed a negotiation that happened with the use of her copyrighted works or her choreography, and that she sent this through a personal letter instead of a demand letter.

Ogie Diaz was also able to get the side of the producer of the show, Viva, and they confirmed artistic differences played a huge role in this issue, and that they also respect the decision of Teacher Georcelle if she was not willing to compromise her own ‘artistic freedom.’ The monetary dispute was also clarified that there were indeed demands that they cannot meet. To counter this, Viva opted to completely change the choreography of Sarah Geronimo’s hit pop songs, in collaboration with the choreographers from UPeepz and A-Team.

Sarah Geronimo ended her anniversary concert with all of the dancers beside her, thanking them per team, and did not forget to include G-Force in her thank-you-spree. “G-Force, thank you! G-Force, I love you!” she exclaimed.
