This year’s MTV Video Music Awards seems to be dominated by girl power.
According to ABS-CBN, girl-power dominated the award’s night started by Taylor Swift winning two awards: video for good and video of the year awards. Cardi B won best hip-hop video and Lizzo celebrated big women.
Taylor Swift said that VMAs are chosen by fans and “it means that you want a world where we are all treated equally under the law.”
Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande lead with 10 nominations each during the fan-voted ceremony in Newark, New Jersey. They are also both competing for song of the year, best pop, and video of the year.
Grande was not seen at the ceremony since she is currently on her Europe tour.
Cardi B beat out the males on the best hip-hop category with her single “Money.” Upon accepting her award she ended her speech with “Thank you, Jesus.”
Breakout artist Lizzo sent out a body positivity message during her performance accompanied by plus-size dancers.
