US judge advises Ed Sheeran to face plagiarism claims

English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran was advised by a United States judge to face the plagiarism claims on his ‘Thinking Out Loud’ track, March 31, Wednesday.
U.S. District Judge Ronnie Abrams in Manhattan, New York has rejected Sheeran’s petition to dismiss one of the lawsuits from Marvin Gaye’s 1973 classic “Let’s Get It On.”
The judge told Sheeran’s camp that Structured Asset Sales LLC, which owns one-third of the track’s co-writer Ed Townsend’s estate, can sue Sheeran and Sony Music Publishing as well as other defendants over April 2020 copyright registration for a studio recording of the song.
“Thinking Out Loud” reached No. 2 on Billboard Hot 100 in February 2015. “Let’s Get It On” hit No. 1 in September 1973. For details, he case is ‘Structured Asset Sales LLC v Sheeran et al, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 20-04329.’
