Woodstock co-founder Michael Lang announced on Tuesday at a press conference at Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Lady Studios in New York the preliminary artists that will join the Woodstock 50 music festival on August 2019. Announcement was made alongside with John Fogerty and Common who performed at the original Woodstock.
Jay-Z, Dead and Company and the Killers will be the headline in one of the anniversary shows to commemorate the Woodstock groundbreaking. To join the lineup, Woodstock includes Miley Cyrus, Santana, Imagine Dragons, Robert Plant, The Sensational Space Shifters, the Black Keys and Chance the Rapper.
“It’s kind of spooky how similar things are. How some of the things that we thought we’d gone past in the last 50 years — the racial divides, care for the environment and women’s rights — now we have Black Lives Matter and the #MeToo movement and climate deniers and another in the White House. So, it’s very similar,” Lang describing the parallelism of Woodstock took place 50 years ago and what will happen this year.
More than 80 artists are expected to perform at Woodstock 50 that will be held on August 16 to 18 in Watskin Glen, New York.
Historically, more than 400,000 people packed the Woodstock Music and Arts Fair on August 15 to 17, 1969.
