We often convince ourselves that we know how to handle our emotions. That we can love our friends without falling in love with them.

It’s always nice to have a guy best friend; someone that you can goof around and treat you as one of the boys, and yet, is so protective of you, sometimes you feel like you’re with a bodyguard.

However, there are times when our hearts decide to betray us.  It tends to beat for the very person we’re afraid of losing.  How can you actually fall for your best friend?  Spell COMPLICATED, right?

Here are some proofs that you might want to find another best friend, because you’re madly, deeply in love with your current one.

You get jealous when he hangs out with other girls

Sure. He’s free to look at other girls, but when he starts hanging out with them and spending less time with you, don’t you just want to pull the other girl’s hair or burn her clothes or something? When he mentions another girl’s name or gets giddy every time he receives a text message from her, your blood starts to boil too.

You plan your schedule around him

That vacation your family has been planning for ages and you suddenly bails out of them because your best friend will not be able to join you.  Or that one semester where you mapped out all your subjects so that you’ll have free time together. You can’t watch a movie without him, or go to parties if he’s not invited because it’s never fun without him.  It’s not the same without him.

You find yourself smiling a lot

Well, it’s nice that you smile a lot. But it’s different when you smile because you saw him enter the room, or whenever you stare at his eyes and you couldn’t help but giggle.  Even when he’s just sitting there, you smile. You smile whenever he’s around you. His presence makes you happy. Regardless how shitty your day was, as soon as he’s there, everything will all be forgotten.

    You’re not attracted to anyone

When your other friends ask you who’s your crush? You mention some hunk actor’s name or that guy from somewhere, no one really knows. That one time when one of your relatives ask you why you’re not getting married yet, you tell them because you don’t have a boyfriend yet. But the truth is, you’re not looking for anyone right now. You’re satisfied with what you have.

You hate the fact that he is in love with someone else

Trust me, no amount of explanation will suffice the fact that you don’t like any of his girlfriends. You always say that he deserves better. You find fault in every girl he dates, not because you’re concerned with his feelings but because you’re guarding your own too.

It’s ok to be in love with your guy best friend. But you have to face the fact that he may not have the same feelings for you. The most painful thing you could experience is being placed on the “friend zone.”  That you are his best friend but not good enough to be his girlfriend.

Falling in love is always a risk. Take that leap of faith.
