A Letter To The One Who Actually Came Back

They say, “Love is sweeter the second time around,” but ours was different. I don’t want to call it a break up because we were never official. It’s better if we will just leave it to a “pause,” a time apart, a time to fully understand what went wrong and what we could’ve done better. It created a window for us to see if what we are trying to build up is something that we really want in the future.
One day, we just mutually decided that we don’t want to talk to each other anymore, that we are not on each other’s speed dial, that we are not each other’s go-to anymore. You were my 2am thoughts but at the same time I surrounded myself with thick walls just to make sure that you will not be able to break in. I even deleted your number on my cell, our thread in my inbox, and of course, the most desperate move of all time: I unfollowed you on your social media accounts. I hated seeing you or anything about you. It just ruins my day. I even ditched any get-together that might or will involve you.
Since we stopped talking, things changed. I started to feel like you were really meant to fill in the spaces in some aspects of my life. Your annoying antics are my therapy. Your hand intertwined with mine means security. Your company makes me realize that we are not born to live a life alone. Yes, I hated you. So much. But that time apart made me realize a lot of things that I am pretty sure I was too blind to see before.
Thank you for being brave enough to make the first move, to apologize and to give the warmest and most sincere hug that anyone could get. I admit, I missed seeing you every weekend, I missed hearing your voice whenever you try to mimic my silly expressions, I missed the scent of your car, your annoying replies, and of course, I missed you. Thank you for being the “One Who Actually Came Back.”
