6 places in the Philippines where you can beat the heat

• It’s just the first month of the year but we can already feel the scorching heat of the sun.

  Here are six places  you can head to if you are planning your summer escapade this early:

  The town of Don Salvador Benedicto or DSB in Negros Occidental.

  DSB is locally known as the “Little Baguio of Negros Occidental” or the “Summer Capital of Negros Occidental” because of its neither windy nor too cold climate. It is located 2,500 feet above sea level and its coldest months is from December to February with a temperature ranging from 16°C to 27 °C.

  Since DSB is considered as the ‘Little Baguio’, it has its own lion monument just like in Baguio.

  Aside from the lion monument, there’s a 1.7 kilometer road filled with beautifully grown pine trees that will surely remind you of Baguio.

  Malaybalay, Bukidnon

  Bukidnon has high peak mountains that makes it a must go places to feel the cold breeze when things get hotter in Manila.

  The province has average temperature ranging between 18 and 28°C but because it has many river systems, it keeps the province humid.

  Marawi, Lanao del Sur

  The capital city of Lanao del Sur, Marawi is located 2,600 feet above sea level. The place has a cool climate with temperature reaching as low as 18°C thus being crowned as the ‘Summer Capital of the South’.

  The largest and deepest lake in the country can also be found in Marawi. It is called the Lake Lanao which has a terrain of majestic view. The lake is also considered as one of the 15 ancient lakes in the world.

  Sagada

  The place where the cold hearted people go.

  Sagada is the place where broken hearts go because it’s one of the cooler places in the country.

  Sagada is located 5,300 feet above sea level and the temperature can plummet to as 10°C during January and February.

  Sagada offers a wonderful view of sea of clouds at the peak of Mt. Klitepan. Aside from Klitepan, Sumaguing Cave is a must-visit in Sagada because it has a super cold water that will instantly turn anyone into ‘ice’ when dipping into it.

  Tagaytay

  The quickest escape from the blazing heat of Metro Manila because it will only take you from 1 hour to 30 mins drive to be there.

  Tagaytay is 2,000 feet above sea level. Mt. Sungay which is known as the People’s Park in the Sky is the highest point in the city which is located  2,326 feet above sea level.

  Baguio

  The Summer Capital of the Philippines.

  If you want to steam off without hitting the beach during  summer, Baguio is the perfect place.

  Baguio is massively elevated at 5,050 feet above sea level.  Its average temperature can be as low as 12.9 °C in January.

  Among  the tourist places you can visit are Burnham Park, Mines View Park, Camp John Hay and the famous Session Road.

  If you are planning to visit Baguio in February, you might be able to experience the popular ‘Panagbenga Festival’.
