Baguio approves Anti-Profanity Ordinance

  If you are someone who is fond of using profane words, you might probably want to keep it in you for a while if you are in Baguio City.

  As stated in a news report on GMA News Online, the city council of Baguio City passed the Anti-Profanity Ordinance. Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan has signed the ordinance two months ago.

  This ordinance prohibits cursing or expressing insults, whether directly or indirectly within school premises and other establishments where students go to.

  According to Councilor Lilia Fariñas in a press release, “profanity” refers to blasphemous or obscene language, irregular or irrelevant speech or action, expletive, oath, swearing, swearword, curse, cuss word, profane or obscene expression usually of surprise or anger.

  If you happen to violate the ordinance, there will be a personal talk to remind the violator of the ordinance but if the violation is repeated several times, the penalty will suspension or expulsion depending on the school authorities.

  This new ordinance in Baguio got several reactions from the netizens. Some are actually in favor while some are not. Some believe that the city does not need such ordinance because prohibiting profanity must start from their own homes. They say the parents must be a good role model to their own children.
