Baguio City re-opens, increases tourist cap to 3k

The local government of Baguio has gradually re-opened the city for Luzon tourists as part of their strategic program for the local tourism industry.
After the Department of Tourism (DOT) has announced recent policy allowing leisure travel in areas with eased travel restrictions, those from areas under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).
“Alam naman natin na ang Baguio very dependent on tourists at dahil bawal ang travel from NCR Plus for leisure, marami talagang naapektuhan although they can accept naman from other areas na MGCQ dahil bawal pa ang NCR Plus,” said Tourism Secretary Bernadette Puyat in an interview on CNN Philippines.
“Well I hope we will surpass our revenue last year despite that we had a pandemic. According to Secretary Berna Puyat during our meeting last Sunday, she said among the cities that are heavily reliant on tourism, Baguio was able to generate the most number of the biggest revenue,” Mayor Benjamin Magalong said in a statement.
On the recent registration on the city’s platform, the city have approved approximately 3,200 tourists’ travel requests. This will increase about 200 to 300 tourists daily.
In this recent move to gradually re-open the city, the city’s chief executive assured that tourists’ health and safety will not be compromised for certain guidelines and procedures will still be enforced.
Before going to Baguio, make sure that you and your company have taken either an Antigen or real time-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test RT-PCR swab test. Tourists are expected to comply with the minimum public health standards such as frequent washing of hands, wearing of face mask and face shield, and strict observance of physical distancing most especially in secluded places.
Baguio mayor advised the public, as well as tourists, to wear medical-grade face masks for greater protection against the virus. He also added that if someone is wearing a cloth mask, then, it should be doubled with a medical-grade face mask.
So, if you become too excited because of the eased restrictions, please be reminded that ‘complacency is the enemy.’ Don’t be too easy on going through COVID-19 protocols.
