Baguio City has its newest popular tourist attraction, it is the Saint Francis Xavier Bamboo Ecological Park.
Since its opening, it already gained attraction to tourists. It is located within the Saint Francis Xavier Seminary and it showcases different types and species of bamboo which are planted through the parks’ pathways.

It is currently closed due to numerous vandalisms found on trees with the perimeter of the park.
Last week, on November 9, Philippine Bamboo Foundation President Edgardo Manda has made the announcement, through Facebook, that the park will be off limits to visitors.
“TO THE VISITING PUBLIC: WE ARE TEMPORARILY CLOSING THE BAMBOO ECOPARK IN BAGUIO CITY DUE TO VANDALISM. Some visitors do not respect the place and have defaced bamboo culms (or poles) by engraving their names and relieving themselves along the pathway,” Manda said.

The Bamboo eco-park doesn’t have any security personnel to check on visitors’ activities from time to time. This might be the reason why vandalisms on trees were seen in different parts of the park.
There’s no statement on when will the eco-park re-open.
The incident is a call for all that we should take good care of our environment.

When the bishop of Baguio, Most Rev. Victor Bendico, celebrated Mass within that eco-park to open the “Season of Creation” last September 1, he emphasized that caring for the environment is caring for one’s self as well.
The recent calamities are once again reminding us that the environment should always be respected, whether we are tourists or locals, because it is our common home.
