This August the LRT fare hike is happening, following several months of discussions with the Department of Transportation’s Rail Regulatory Unit.
Starting August 2, the fare matrix of both LRT 1 and LRT 2 will now cost P13.29 from the previous P11, with additional P1.21 per kilometer of rail travel from the previous P1.

The said fare adjustments will be used to enhance the LRT 1 and LRT 2 services according to Assistant Secretary for Railways, Jorjette Aquino.
Discounts for students, Senior Citizens, and PWD discounts will stay the same at 20%.
Last April, president Ferdinand “BongBong” Marcos deferred the fare hike implementation due to the negative economic impact it would have.
The last fare hike approved for both LRT 1 and LRT 2 was in 2015 under the late president Noynoy Aquino.
