An Open Letter To LTFRB: #WeWantUberGrab
July 18, 2017

After issuing a PHP 5 million fine to the giant Transport Network Companies Grab Philippines and Uber Systems, Inc. the LTFRB has ordered to suspend the operations of all their vehicles that does not have the certificates of public convenience, effective on July 26, Wednesday.
It sounds good that the government agency is thinking about the safety of the commuters.
But what if I tell you that only 10% of all the Uber and Grab vehicles have these certificates and 90% of them have not. Crazy? I know right. So if you’re one of the thousands who ride Uber and Grab to reach point a to point b then you’re doomed because now you’ll end up again with not-so-good taxi driver.
To LTFRB, why do you think everyone have chosen TNCs over the regular taxi cabs? Answer, It’s fast because in just few taps you’re ready to go; there is this feeling of safety when you’re riding TNVs and of course it is very convenient and comfortable.
Unlike when riding a regular taxi cab, its sometimes the exact opposite. It takes too much time hailing a taxi, the fare negotations that shouldn’t be there in the first place and sometimes your safety will be put on the line. Commuting is hard but what makes it harder is because of these type of taxi drivers. Some say, “Dagdagan niyo na lang po ng (xxxx amount of money) kasi traffic po doon,” and others just shake their head and leave you in thin air.
So why, LTFRB? if the interest of the public is the reason of this ban on the TNCs, why do it? Yes, given that no one should be above the law but both TNCs have always expressed their desire to follow your rules just for them to operate.
Grab and Uber have made life so much better for us that they’ve already become a partner in our everyday life.
Please, LTFRB don’t screw us on this one. If you really consider our convenience and safety, try to reconsider your decision.
