According to a tweet by @MABuendiaHD, “Pinoybaiting is a marketing strategy used by creators to attract Filipino audience & fans. Foreign youtubers exagge reaction videos to our singers; series, tv shows and films involving the Philippines in their plotline. It’s effective coz our thirst for global validation is real.” Do you think with his thoughts?
In this episode of Coffee Break, DJs Chloe, Nick, and Shai talked one of the hottest topic online which is Pinoybaiting or Filipinos being target of foreign vloggers. Nick and Shai share the same sentiment when it comes to these kinds of videos. “There’s nothing wrong with being happy with the success of our fellow Filipinos. It’s just if there is money involved and the content is consistent then maybe that is pinoybaiting,” Nick said. “If I could filter out the contents I would not watch, it’s the foreign reaction videos on particular Pinoy talent, brand, etc. because it’s an automatic content and dollars for them,” Shai said. “I do wish that we have more pride enough for ourselves to not need constant validation from foreigners,” she added. When Chloe was asked on what does she thinks of Filipinos watching foreign vlogs, “Filipinos go watch what they want to watch. Regardless of pinoy baiting, Filipinos will always feel that we are being appreciated.” Nick also shared an article online that was written by her professor on what made the Nas Daily and Whang Od academy go wrong. He shared that the Nas’ team failed to follow the Kalinga culture. In the end, he argued that modern vlogging has no concept of ethics because open contents posted on social can get out of hand.
