Maisie Peters on “John Hughes Movie” and unrequited love: “If you don’t want me, you’re not the one”

  • On this exclusive interview, DJ Nick and Maisie Peters talked about the story behind her song “John Hughes Movie.”

The song talks about unrequited love. “I wrote this song a few years ago when I was 17. It’s sort of a dramatic retelling of a night where it didn’t go quite as planned and I felt like I want my life to be a movie but it was bad as a movie,” the pop singer-songwriter said.

DJ Nick asked Maisie on what advice can she give on people who are victims of unrequited love. “There’s so many people in the world and there’s the option to meet so many people and I think you know it’s easy to obsess over people who don’t want you or not,” Peters said. “Think all about the tens and hundreds of people that do and they’ll love you and want to be around you and I think if somebody doesn’t then they are just 100 percent not for you,” she added.

“John Hughes Movie” is Peters’ first single off her upcoming debut album.

Aside from singing, Maisie has a virtual club called Maisie Peters Book Club that has over 6 thousand followers and has hosted live Q+A’s with an array of the most exciting new names in the literary worlds, including Naoise Dolan, Florence Given and Elif Bautman.
