Be mindful of these alternative routes in QC during SONA

  Traffic arrangements are in progress along Commonwealth Avenue in preparation for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s second State of the Nation Address (SONA) scheduled for Monday, July 24, at the House of Representatives in Quezon City.

  Given the anticipation of more than 1,700 attendees for this significant event, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) advises motorists to consider alternate routes to avoid the expected heavy traffic along Commonwealth Avenue.

  On the day of the SONA, over 1,300 MMDA personnel will be dedicated to managing vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Drivers who park their vehicles illegally on these roads will face penalties and possible apprehension.

  MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes emphasized that comprehensive preparations are underway to ensure smooth traffic flow along Commonwealth Avenue, IBP Road, and all other nearby thoroughfares. Activities related to the SONA and a simultaneous transport strike will be closely monitored through the newly inaugurated MMDA Communications and Command Center.

  Commuters must be mindful that using public transportation might become increasingly difficult during a nationwide transport strike planned from July 24 to 26, coinciding with Marcos’ SONA on Monday. Around 300,000 members of the transport group MANIBELA are expected to take part in this three-day strike.

   

  Take these routes to bypass the heavy traffic on Commonwealth Avenue during SONA 2023

   

  Northbound (Quezon Memorial Circle to Fairview)

  Vehicles from Elliptical Road should take North Avenue, right turn at Mindanao Avenue, then right turn to Sauyo Road or take Quirino Highway to reach the point of destination.

   

  Southbound (Fairview to Quezon Memorial Circle)

  Vehicles from Commonwealth Avenue should take Sauyo Road or Quirino Highway, turn left at Mindanao Avenue, then turn left at North Avenue to reach the point of destination.

  Vehicles from C5 Road may turn left at Magiting Street, turn right at Maginhawa Street, turn left at Mayaman Street to Kalayaan Avenue to reach the point of destination.
